Former Memphis Tiger Willie Kemp is currently in training camp in the NBA’s D-Leauge with the Dakota Wizards, according to the Dakota Wizards Blog on KFYR-TV Kemp has been impressive:
Rookie point guard Willie Kemp has been the most impressive newcomer thus far, which given the high level he played at while attending Memphis, isn’t all that surprising. The floor general has endeared himself to teammates, especially the veterans with his pass-first mentality, something that was discussed at length in his scouting report.
White and Smith have both liked his ability to pick up and run the offensive sets at a rapid pace, while Darren Cooper and Renaldo Major both commented on Kemp drawing defenders and finding them in open spot up situations.
It’s early in the process, there’s no question there, but it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising to see both Johnson and Kemp in the starting lineup on opening night. Certainly the question if whether or not they will make the final cut seems to be a moot point.
